Friulano 'Gredic' Movia 2024
Naturwein
The ‘Gredic’ by Movia is a Sauvignon Vert, also known as Sauvignonasse or, more commonly, Friulano, produced among the hills of the Slovenian part of Collio in Gorizia. It is made from the grapes of the Friulano vine, the old Tocai, before it was prohibited to use this name to avoid confusion with the Hungarian Tokaji. It is a wine of good structure, with beautiful floral and fruity notes, which, thanks to aging in large barrels, offers a complex and mature aromatic spectrum, rich and persistent. It has always represented the everyday wine of the territory, its harmony and natural balance make it very versatile for food pairings.
The white 'Gredic' is produced by one of the most famous and historically rich realities of Slovenian Collio. The origins of the winery date back to the 1800s and today at the helm of the company is Ales Kristancic, who has brought Movia to be one of the best-known names, even internationally, of Goriska Brda. The estate extends over about 20 hectares cultivated under organic farming, with great attention and love for the land. The company philosophy is a perfect mix of the oldest peasant traditions and the desire to experiment and innovate, always with the intent of producing wines with an authentic taste that reflect the typicity of the territory. Lower and lower percentages of sulfites are used and vinifications that require minimal intervention are practiced, so as to always keep the qualities of the grape in the foreground.
The Movia 'Gredic' is produced with a slightly late harvest of the best clusters from the Friulano vineyards that are about 25 years old. The fermentation is spontaneous, using only indigenous yeasts. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation, ages for 12 months on fine lees in 30-hectoliter oak barrels, and finishes aging with a few months in the bottle. In the glass, it has an intense light yellow color. The bouquet expresses scents of wildflowers, aromas of ripe fruit, notes of fresh almond, and hints of aromatic herbs. The sip is rich, broad, well-structured, satisfying, and with a very balanced finish, closing with a decisive and pleasant sapidity. A beautiful example of how a wine can express a territory.
