The Chiaretto del Garda “18 e Quarantacinque” by Citari is a rosé that perfectly expresses the tradition of the Garda area. It is a classic blend of red grape varieties historically grown on the southwestern shore of Lake Garda: Groppello, Marzemino, Sangiovese, and Barbera. Its floral fragrances and delicately fruity aromas provide a harmonious and elegant tasting experience, pleasantly savory with good final persistence. The name of the wine recalls a historical event linked to the territory. Indeed, at 18:45, on 1859, the battle of San Martino between the Austrian and Sardinian armies ended with an armistice.
The “18 e Quarantacinque” Chiaretto del Garda by Citari is produced by a winery that manages an estate in the Colle San Martino area, in a region very suited to viticulture, thanks to the influence of Lake Garda which offers a very mild climate, with almost Mediterranean nuances. The property extends over 35 hectares and is managed with extreme care, with the sole aim of producing wines capable of give voice to the terroir in an authentic way. The vineyards of Groppello, Marzemino, Sangiovese, and Barbera are cultivated on morainic soils of ancient glacial origin, which form gentle hills south of Lake Garda. The harvest takes place during the month of September and the grapes are pressed very gently, with a brief contact with the skins, to extract aromas and a bit of color. The must is then vinified in white with fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature. Before bottling, the wine ages for a few months on the fine lees in steel tanks.
The Chiaretto del Garda “18 e Quarantacinque” by Citari is a refined rosé, a synthesis of a great terroir, a long tradition, and grape varieties suitable for producing this type of wine, which has been highly appreciated in recent years, especially in international markets. In appearance, it is a beautiful light and bright pink. The olfactory profile expresses aromas of iris, dried rose petals, hints of pink grapefruit, pomegranate, red currant, raspberry, and wild strawberries. Harmonious and intense, on the palate it has juicy and rich aromas, which lead to a persistent, fresh, and savory finish.
