Morgon 'Les Delys' Daniel Bouland 2024
Morgon “Les Delys” is one of the flagship labels of Domaine Daniel Bouland. A beautiful reality of Beaujolais, always committed to artisanal work to enhance this splendid terroir of France's wine country, which is coming into the spotlight for a remarkable increase in the quality level of its production. It is a family-run estate located between Villié-Morgon and Chiroubles, managing splendid vineyards of Gamay. The result of passionate and skilled work gives us a red with a pleasantly convivial face, fresh, fruity, and fragrant, which perfectly reflects the best characteristics of Gamay.
“Les Delys” from Domaine Daniel Bouland comes to life in the area of the Morgon Appellation, which is located in the northern part of the Beaujolais area and hosts the most famous and highly regarded crus of the region. Characterized by the presence of Mont du Py, the hilly area of Morgon is situated at an altitude of about 300 meters above sea level and boasts splendid sunny exposures. The mild and breezy climate and the prized soils, composed of sands generated by the decomposition of schists, rich in gravel, have always proven to be an ideal habitat for viticulture and in particular for the Gamay grape, a local variety, the result of a spontaneous cross between Pinot and the ancient Gouais Blanc grape, native to the Balkans and brought to the lands of Gaul by Emperor Marcus Aurelius Probus in the 3rd century AD. At the end of the harvest, the grapes are sent to ferment in wooden vats and before bottling, the wine rests for 11 months in French oak barrels.
Morgon “Les Delys” from Domaine Daniel Bouland is a perfect bottle to discover and appreciate the authentic face of Gamay, light years away from the commercial banalities of much Beaujolais Nouveau, which has unfortunately given a misleading image of this territory and its emblematic grape: Gamay. Characterized by a bright ruby red color with luminous reflections, it expresses on the nose fragrant aromas of ripe cherry, small red berries, light floral nuances and delicate hints of soft spices. Medium-bodied, it has a subtle tannic texture and a sip with rich, juicy and crunchy fruit, which unfolds harmoniously towards a finish of good taste persistence.
