The Taburno Falanghina del Sannio ‘Vigna del Monaco’ from the Campanian winery Ocone is an expression with an enticing floral and balsamic aromatic profile. This bottle belongs to the Superiore line ‘Millenovecentodieci’, named to honor the year of the first harvest branded Ocone, represented by strongly territorial monovarietal expressions, as in the case of the Falanghina ‘Vigna del Monaco’.
Ocone Falanghina del Sannio Taburno ‘Vigna del Monaco’ is a 100% Falanghina coming from a single hectare vineyard located on a hillside in the municipality of Ponte, at 400 meters above sea level. The rows are exposed to the southwest and are rooted in medium-textured soils originating from the alteration of tuff parent rock, partially outcropping. Following the harvest, the grapes are destemmed and placed in cold pre-fermentation maceration for a short period, followed by soft pressing and then alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperature. The subsequent maturation phase takes place initially on the lees always finished in steel for 2 months and subsequently in barrique, containers in which the wine rests for 5 months before bottling.
‘Vigna del Monaco’ Taburno Falanghina del Sannio by Ocone has a straw yellow color with brilliant golden highlights. A fine and intense aromatic spectrum that opens with hints of ripe apricot, citrus zest, hawthorn, elderflower, and peach, soon joined by pronounced balsamic and mineral perceptions. Excellent balance on the palate between the soft structure, the enticing freshness, and the distinct savory character. Long mineral and citrus echoes on the finish. A Falanghina of excellent versatility in food-wine pairing, suitable for elaborate first courses, both seafood and meat, as well as for substantial fish second courses.
