The Malbec Argentino from Bodega Catena Zapata is a great red, intense, elegant, and complex, that highlights the best characteristics of the grape variety typical of Argentina. Arrived in the New World from the Bordeaux region and the southwest of France, Malbec has adapted very well in Argentina, particularly in the Mendoza area. Thanks to a deep knowledge of the territory, Catena Zapata has been able to select the best plots cultivated at altitude, in order to obtain grapes characterized by complex aromas and a pleasant freshness. The notes of small berries, the spicy and mineral hints, are enriched with refined tertiary aromas due to the long aging in wood. A special bottle to be enjoyed among connoisseurs with grilled meat or a Florentine steak.
The Malbec Argentino wine is the result of the desire of the Catena Zapata winery to create a great red with the most widespread grape variety in the area, capable of competing internationally with more famous and prestigious labels. The estate has grown over time seeking increasingly suitable lands in the higher areas of Mendoza, characterized by a particularly cool climate. The grapes come from old high-quality vineyards, the result of a mass selection pre-phylloxera. The Nicasia vineyard is located in San Carlos de Mendoza at an altitude of about 1000 meters and is characterized by alluvial soils with abundant gravel. The Angélica vineyard is located near a dry river in the Maipú area, at 920 meters above sea level. At the end of the harvest, 20% of the grapes are vinified as whole clusters and the remaining 80% is destemmed. Fermentation takes place in wooden tanks with a maceration on the skins of 3-4 weeks. The wine matures in French oak barrels for a period of 10-15 months.
