Cinerino Marziano Abbona 2024

Marziano Abbona Langhe Bianco ‘Cinerino’ constitutes a rich and softly mineral expression of the white grape variety Viognier, native to the Rhône Valley. In fact, the idea to create this wine, produced for the first time with the 1996 vintage, stems from the meeting of the Abbona family with the prestigious Viognier from the Rhône. Moreover, the name ‘Cinerino’ derives from the grey heron that occasionally stops by the pond where the vineyards overlook, located near the winery.

The Langhe Bianco ‘Cinerino’ from the family-run estate Marziano Abbona is a pure Viognier from vines over 25 years old. Following the harvest, the grapes undergo the operation of destemming-crushing and, after 36 hours of cold pre-fermentative skin maceration using carbon dioxide to prevent oxidative phenomena, soft pressing and alcoholic fermentation of the must take place in small 225-liter oak and acacia barrels. The fermentation process is accompanied by daily batonnage and the wine remains to mature in the same containers, without undergoing malolactic fermentation, for 5-7 months on the fine lees. Subsequently, the masses are blended and after a short resting period in stainless steel tanks, where static decantation occurs, the wine is finally bottled.

The Viognier ‘Cinerino’ Langhe Bianco by Marziano Abbona has a straw yellow color with brilliant greenish flashes. On the nose, rich and complex perceptions of ripe fruit, white flowers, acacia honey, and exotic fruit are felt, enriched by refined spicy and mineral hints. The taste development is full and soft, generous and velvety, balanced and harmonious in its consistent returns of fruit and spices.
